Mamorial
“Mamorial” is a 501(c)3 breast cancer initiative offering healing and awareness through installation art. I offered breast cancer survivors the opportunity to make a mold of their cancer affected chests at any stage, from the moment of detection through mastectomy and reconstruction. I also invited them to write about their experience. For many, it was a way to process the ravages of the disease and reclaim their bodies. Facsimiles of their chests, cast in resin custom dyed to match their skin tone, along with their words made up various iterations of the “Mamorial“ installation.
“Mamorial” lives on as a script and a performance created from the funny, sad, profound and hopeful words of its participants. Each actor concludes her monologue by dedicating her performance to someone she knows, or knew, with the disease.
